The Battle of Northampton took place during the Second Barons' War. The battle was a decisive victory for the royalist forces of King Henry III of England who took Northampton Castle and captured Simon de Montfort (the Younger) son of Simon de Montfort (the Older).

The action is reasonably well located within the former landscape park of Delapre Abbey to the south of the medieval town of Northampton. The battle was observed by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Papal Legate from the site of the Eleanor Cross.

When King John refused to agree to the demands the barons declared civil war and attacked Northampton. This was the first battle of the Barons' War. The rebels sieged the town for two weeks and attacked Northampton Castle but ultimately failed because they had no siege equipment with them.
