The Russian Jewish Congress is a charitable fund that supports Jewish communities across Russia. Its members are some of the country?s most influential and prosperous Russian Jews including politicians and businessmen such as Andrei Rappaport who benefited from the Troika Laundromat.

 

The Russian Jewish Congress is a non-profit charitable fund and Russian Jewish organization. It was established in 1996 by a group of Jewish businessmen workers and religious figures with the goal of reviving Jewish life in Russia.

 

Beginning in the 1880s waves of anti-Jewish pogroms swept across different regions of the empire for several decades spurring in part a great outward migration. More than two million Jews fled Russia between 1880 and 1920 mostly to the United States and Palestine.

 

The umbrella organization of Russian Jewry is the Russian Jewish Congress. It realizes common projects or supports contacts with all religious (of the three movements of Judaism represented in Russia) social charitable and federal and regional Jewish organizations in Russia.
