By breaking the chemical bonds in glucose cells release the stored energy and make the ATP they need. The process in which glucose is broken down and ATP is made is called cellular respiration.

 

Plants can take in light water and carbon dioxide and send out sugar and oxygen. Here?s how it works.

 

Through a series of reactions involving ATP and NADPH these molecules are transformed into glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P) the building block of glucose and other carbohydrates.

 

Calvin Cycle: ATP is used to create sugars that the plant will use to grow and live. My question is where does the ATP come from? Light-dependent reactions make ATP with the light energy but the Calvin cycle seems to already have it so that it can convert into sugars...

 

Photosynthesis changes sunlight into chemical energy splits water to liberate O 2 and fixes CO 2 into sugar. Most photosynthetic organisms are photoautotrophs which means that they are able to synthesize food directly from carbon dioxide and water using energy from light.

 

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants and certain other organisms transform light energy into chemical energy. During photosynthesis in green plants light energy is captured and used to convert water carbon dioxide and minerals into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds.
