Former President Jimmy Carter honored more widely for his humanitarian work around the globe after his presidency than for his White House tenure during a tumultuous time has died. He was 100.

 

Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter Jr.) thirty-ninth president of the United States was born Oct. 1 1924 in the small farming town of Plains Georgia and grew up in the nearby community of Archery.

 

Jimmy Carter served as the 39 th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981 and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his humanitarian work around the world.

 

Jimmy Carter (1924?2024) was the 39th president of the United States (1977?81). He served during a time of serious troubles notable among which was the Iran hostage crisis. For his work in diplomacy and advocacy both during and after his presidency he received the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize.

 

He is the longest-lived president in U.S. history and the only one to reach the age of 100. Born in Plains Georgia Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946 and joined the submarine service before returning to his family's peanut farm.
