Mild steel is one of the most common materials that a hacksaw can cut effectively. It is widely used in construction automotive repair and DIY projects. Mild steel has relatively low carbon content making it softer compared to some other steels.

 

A hacksaw is a simple hand tool used mainly for cutting metal pipes rods and bars. It has a metal frame with a thin replaceable blade that has small sharp teeth.

 

A hacksaw is mainly used for cutting thin metal such as aluminum brass steel or copper. Hacksaws are also used for cutting plastics such as PVC PEX or ABS on pipes or on sheet goods made of PVC polystyrene and more.

 

Yes a hacksaw can cut through a wide range of common metals such as aluminium copper or bronze. However the effectiveness and ability of a hacksaw to cut through metal is contingent on factors such as the blade type its Teeth Per Inch (TPI) rating and the thickness of the workpiece.

 

This is used to cut metals such as aluminum brass high carbon steel cast iron tool steel and so on. This hacksaw blade cuts at a rate of 20 to 24 TPI (teeth per inch).

 

For several decades now hacksaw blades have used high speed steel for their teeth giving greatly improved cutting and tooth life. These blades were first available in the 'All-hard' form which cut accurately but were extremely brittle.
