Allende is a meteorite that fell in Mexico in 1969. Roughly 2 t of that CV3 carbonaceous chondrite were found. Allende is one of the most studied meteorites because it contains abundant and large CAIs which are believed to be the first solids to have formed in the solar system.

 

In order to investigate the lunar rocks NASA had recently obtained cutting-edge equipment which they utilized to examine the samples from the Allende meteorite. Due to the rarity of carbonaceous chondrite meteorites the fall of the Allende meteorite greatly increased our understanding of them.

 

Allende meteorite meteorite that fell as a shower of stones (see meteorite shower) after breaking up in the atmosphere at Chihuahua Mex. near the village of Pueblito de Allende in February 1969. More than two tons of meteorite fragments were collected.

 

Carbonaceous chondrites including Allende are the most primitive meteorites and contain the most primitive known matter. They have undergone the least mixing and remelting since the early stages of Solar System formation.
