Der Cardo maximus befindet sich in der Altstadt im jüdischen Viertel Jerusalems. Neben den antiken Säulen gibt es für Kinder ein lustiges Wandgemälde vor dem sie sich gerne fotografieren lassen.

 

Der Cardo ist eine alte Arkade in der Altstadt von Jerusalem die aus der Römerzeit stammt als sie eine der Hauptachsen der Stadt bildete. Es wurde umgebaut es ist ein beliebter Ort für einen Spaziergang am Samstagabend.

In Roman times the Cardo cut the Old City in half running south from the Damascus Gate. Lined with shops and vendors the street served as social cultural and economic hub of its time.

 

The Cardo is an ancient arcade in the Old City of Jerusalem that dates from Roman times when it formed one of the city's main axes. It has been rebuilt it's popular as a place for a stroll on Saturday night.

 

The Cardo is a remnant of Aelia Capitolina the Roman city built over the ruins of Jerusalem following the Jewish rebellions of 70 and 135 AD. It was a paved 22.5-meter-wide road running southward from the Damascus Gate.

 

Die Karte ist die früheste kartographische Darstellung Jerusalems und leitete die Archäologen bei ihren Ausgrabungen im jüdischen Viertel nach 1967. Der Cardo wurde an der Stelle entdeckt die die Madabakarte vermuten ließ.

 

The Cardo was the principal north?south thoroughfare of Jerusalem during the Late Roman and Byzantine periods. Together with the east?west decumanus it formed the two main axes of the city.
