Garen's preferred scenario is to take a 2-5 second trade. Short/harrass version is Q to silence you then spin for a second or so and use the last 1.5 seconds of ghosting it provides to spin away and avoid any counter damage. Longer version is auto-E (apply armor shred) auto Q disengage with the speed from Q during the silence.

 

For garen just Q him E his Silence AA disengage. Once you proc grasp a few times he?s low enough to all in. Darius is a little more tricky but nonetheless you?re able to counter play. E/W into his Q Q him AA kite with Q and AA until he winds up another ability and use either E or W to disengage.

 

Garen can counter yorick if they know when to engage. yorick counters ranged toplaners to an extend tanks by building liandys BC Last whisper upgrades etc since his ghouls proc it (though tbh never had a matchup vs ornn ; Ap maphite is risky too). speaking as a yorick main.

 

Garen does indeed counter Jax. You have to know how to play the matchup. Early levels (1-2) and late game are both Jax-favored and if you don't use specific trading patterns you'll lose the lane. Watch some high-Elo vods and take note of the things they do differently. Reply reply Sentekz ?

 

Absolutely. Go for it. I'm a Diamond 3 Garen who has switched to Midlane as my main role last week. What I love about picking Garen midlane is that it baits the enemy team into counterpicking you toplane allowing your toplaner to counterpick their pick. In that case he?s gonna run vayne down. Also before you say that it?s PC garen has a shield there IIRC instead of damage reduction which is more effective against true damage as damage reduction usually doesn?t work against true damage. And how about you explain how you counter vayne as garen?

 

So in an effort to prevent his ban/nerf rate from skyrocketing lets just get the metagame arms race rolling?and share with non-Garen players how to counter Garen. I posted this in r/GarenMains previously and am sharing it here so people who are basically meeting Garen for the first time ever will have some clue WTF is going on.

 

I'm a garen otp myself but i don't know how to counter him. The only basic counters i know is any ranged and trundle. Can you guys give me some bruisers or any tips that could help counter him? Appreciate it.

 

Garen can really bully Riven in lane and make it impossible for her to do much. She is very ability reliant and his silence makes her basically useless for 1.5 seconds. He also just seriously out-stats her especially with w stacks. If it's a matchup you have trouble with I'd recommend going Tri Berzerker Greaves then a Deadman's Plate not ...
